After the training, there will be the Annual Meeting of Metropolitan New York Chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association, Inc at which time Board Members including its officers will voted on for the new year starting as of that meeting and a summary of 2011 activities and planned 2012 projects will be discussed. On August 3rd, 2011, the Metropolitan Chapter is endorsing Christopher Thomas Kempski for the NRA Board of Directors as the 2012 At-Large Member: Our endorsement was emailed to each member of its current board as follows: "Dear 2011 NRA Board of Directors, it is my great pleasure upon behalf of the Board of Directors of the NY Metropolitan Chapter of NRA, Inc, (in its 60th year of service) to enthusiastically endorse Christopher Thomas Kempski to serve on the NRA Board of Directors as a 2012 At-Large Board Director. At our awards ceremony on June 22, 2011 we honored Chris with an Award of Appreciation for his having served two consecutive terms as the Chapter President. We noted his leadership in conducting the 2010 NERA Conference hosted by our chapter especially by his creating momentum for the conference around the country, his playing a major role reaching out to new rehabilitation counseling students, and his key position in developing our training conferences especially by running workshops related to counselor wellness, ergonomics, and related matters. On June 22, 2011 the Metropolitan Chapter held a very successful training conference entitled "Rehabilitation Counselors: Where Are We Now?Where Are We Going?" There were approximately 75 attendees. On Wedesday, January 19, 2011 the Metro Chapter ran its 2011 Winter Training Conference entitled "Employment in Challenging Times" at the NYU Wassserman Center. There were about 50 attendees. There were three key presentations by Abilities, Inc., Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. and Concepts by NRG. In the picture at the left the the Chapter represented by President Christopher Kempski and former President Andrew Pasternak are presenting the "Program of Distinction" awared to Abilities, Inc.as well as honoring members of Abilities' Business Advisory Board. Pictured are Tina Pettalides-Markou (Banana Republic), Christopher Kempski, Steve Dandrea (MBE-a UPS company), Edmund Cortez (retiring Abilities' CEO), Jessica Swirsky (Abilities' COO), and Andrew Pasternak. After the conference, the annual business meeting was held during which the Board elected the following officers for 2011: Anthony LaGattuta, President, Anthony Spinelli, President-Elect, Paula Lee, Treasurer, Janice Plumer, Secretary, and Christopher Kempski, Immediate Past President. The following agreed to continue to serve as at-large Board members in 2011: Cheryl Bourne, Pat Canedo-Ryan, Ana Capek, Wendy Hersh, Patricia Hernandez, Valerie Lyons, Iris Markewich, Iris Nelson-Schwartz, Andrew Pasternak, and Andrew Vaughn.
